Great Portugal
Only Brazil can propose a union of kingdoms, once again, the United Kingdom of Portugal and the Algarves, with a restored monarchy, and everything else.
An expanded, inclusive kingdom, if they agree, also: Angola, Mozambique, Goa, Macau, and East Timor.
The Lusophone world together, forming the Lusitanian community of Great Portugal, a single kingdom, a single state.
You can't put an idea back into oblivion once it's been conceived and announced; it will pass from generation to generation until someone makes it a reality.
It is destiny; since the discovery of Brazil, the miscegenation of the indigenous women with the Portuguese, who understood each other immediately and fell in love quickly, has been nuanced. With the Portuguese colonists of the land grants, the syncretism of African and Islamic religions recreated the Goddess Mary, which replicated itself in hundreds of Marys: Our Lady of Grace, Our Lady of Sorrows, Our Lady of Penha, Aparecida, Conception, Isabel, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Help of Christians, Mother of God, Immaculate Conception, Perpetual Help, Virgin Mary, Guadalupe, Saint Mary, Fatima, Blessed Virgin, Mother of Jesus, Assumption, Nazareth, Our Lady, Star of the Sea, Queen of Heaven, Miraculous Medal, Our Lady of the Rosary, Our Lady of the Abbey, Our Lady of Black Men, Our Lady of Miracles, Our Lady of Protection, Our Lady of Help, Our Lady of Aires, Our Lady of the Annunciation, Our Lady of the Angels, Our Lady of the Porciúncula, Our Lady of the Presentation, Our Lady of Arabia, Babylon. Arrábida, Assiute, Dos Alagados, Beauraing, Belém, Boa Hora, Bom Parto, Boa Morte, Bom Sucesso, Boa Viagem, Copacabana, Candelária, Desterro, Providência, Glória, Encarnação, Lapa, Vitória, Livramento, Luz, Mercês, Montserrat, Natividade, Navegantes, Do Ó, Patrocínio, Penha, Piedade, Pentecostes, Prazeres, Presépio, Soledade, are hundreds of names originating from the matrix of the Society of Jesus, which made Brazil, from Portugal, the largest Catholic nation in the world.
Sérgio Buarque de Holanda, historian, Roberto da Matta, anthropologist, with scientific curiosity and rustic feeling, one a Marxist and the other a social democrat, Darcy Ribeiro, Gilberto Freyre, all Brazilianists who sought in the culture of the Portuguese colonizers, studied the native Brazilians and went to the African roots of Guinea, Angola, Mozambique, Malês, Ethiopians, Ghanaians, Sudanese, the idea was formed that the indigenous nations are diverse, different, and that there is no single African, there are many Africans diverse in cultures, languages, customs, ethnicities, they came to the worldview with the language of cuisine, then a new world opened up with new plants such as: tobacco, cocoa, cassava, dozens of new fruits, varieties with cupuaçu, açaí, mangaba.
Brazilians reinvented European festivals like Carnival, which received the Brazilian version in Rio de Janeiro, professionalizing the sacred fun and taking it seriously as a business and religion of samba. They modified musical instruments like the agogô, cuíca, triangle, tambourine, and afoxé; they created dance styles like martial, artistic, and lethal capoeira; new rhythms like bossa nova, pagode, xaxado, forró, maxixe, and lundu; the sadness of fado became chorinho and fandango; the vira is the new xote; and the accordion became sanfona or gaucho harmonica.
The dry seriousness of the African combined with the literal, conspicuous, direct, and unsubtle temperament of the Portuguese, along with the evasive and concrete contingent character of the symbolic and liturgical, esoteric, and superstitious indigenous people—this type of combination, in varying proportions, is evident in the diversity of dialects and slang, accents, and temperaments of each state in the federation, each region, each neighborhood in the closed-off megalopolises and ghettos, producing a variety of customs and cultures, from music to the social behavior of each regional social group.
Our cultural production is diverse, and yet any foreigner or migrant is still at risk of being discovered, as soon as they are immediately set apart from the native local population: one cannot learn all the subtle mannerisms of Brazilians without an extremely complex rite of passage, where a single intonation different and foreign to our language, lost in a sentence, or a poorly articulated agreement, or a misplaced article in a Freudian slip, causes exposure like a spy caught red-handed, even for a migrant who has been acculturated for decades. This is precisely where foreigners slip up the most, because the rules are full of exclusions, inclusions, and exceptions.
The Brazilian is: brazen like an Italian, with British discretion, Portuguese pragmatism, Russian brutality, indigenous subtlety, and African sensuality; imagine this mixed with Polish mathematical precision, Caucasian skin, African lips and hips, wavy hair, the mischievous gaze of a Filipino, Spanish aggressiveness, and the cold cruelty of a Viking, lethal and silent like a Bushi samurai, the patience and caution of a Tibetan monk.
The Brazilian lives the eternal quality of the middle ground: he is an extreme middle ground of everything, without the extremes, cautiously certain of absolutely nothing, he is the ecumenical mystical atheist.
