Statesman, or politician?
Who will invest in more than two decades of taking blows and enduring irresponsible and reckless opportunists, sycophants, and short-sightedness?
We know that some poorly managed companies seek profit even before they begin operations as soon as they are established. Only the State can spend trillions of dollars on research and space adventures so that everyone forgets the fruits and consequences of the technological research advances that resulted more than sixty years later, yielding results, such as in bioresearch.
Since 1995, I have published a blog on Google about STEM courses—in North American terms—which are the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math; which are the heavy-duty fields from which airplanes, robots, computers, software, automation, rockets, automobiles, and vehicles in general emerge.
All technology depends on applied Mathematics and Physics.
When Germany and Japan were completely destroyed after World War II, they quickly regained their power because they had resilient, latent, and protective resources: universities, professors, the tradition and work of mathematicians and physicists, and most of the theorems and theories of Mathematics and Physics, which are of Asian and European origin.
When Ciro Gomes or Lula talk about industry or the reindustrialization of Brazil, they never mention STEM education.
Pay attention: industry cannot exist without universities and STEM research.
What will happen to the political prisoners in Brazil since the attempted invasion of the Planalto Palace?
Those people won't be imprisoned for long because, by analogy, we would have to increase many other penalties, and this disrupts the legal system, as it cannot regulate jurisprudence with its excesses and extra-constitutionalities.
People can't imagine the cost of maintaining a dictatorship: think of the era of slavery: overseers to watch over the slaves; A bush captain to capture runaway slaves; limited, mitigated punishment, so as not to invalidate the investment in the slave's health; abundant food so the slave can work to its fullest; purchase and maintenance of the slave to resell them well.
In the case of dictatorships, it is also necessary to: pay spies, informants, police officers, and judges far above other public servants; also keep countless detailed records of the movements and thoughts of every traitor, every citizen, every suspect; monitor where they go, who they talk to, and what they think and say; verify whether this information is true.
So, surveillance and protection are very expensive, and this cost diverts money from the population itself to invest in the population, so incomes fall; and people work half-heartedly, working just enough to avoid dying, with minimal effort; they don't care for the community's resources and collective assets; they don't invest in education because it's not even worth living.
In the end, everything degrades and wears out, becomes unmaintained, with no prospect of change; everything descends into apathy, and they no longer even want to have or care for children; they don't even think about getting rich, and so everything ends up looking like a museum like in Cuba, North Korea, or Venezuela because you've killed people's dreams and vanity.
Everyone becomes suspicious of their neighbors and relatives who might be spying on them or being pressured to inform on each other; people lie to survive; they no longer trust anyone or anything.
In the end, they must be constantly protected by fear of their own population, which could silently conspire to destroy their own government, like the Berlin Wall that fell without anyone noticing. A madman started with a sledgehammer, and everyone watched, and soon everyone was tearing down the wall in front of the guards, who didn't react.
Thus, without injuries or arrests, the Berlin Wall fell without anyone planning anything.
The generation of the Middle Ages had no information whatsoever about the historical past, so they could never imagine a world different from the social and religious order they knew, as there was a complete alienation of information. Everything was erased, as they do to the new generations of children in dictatorships like Cuba, without internet access.
It's like a fish that can't imagine a world without water, nor a possible world outside of water.
There are no demands, no despair, only a serene apathy and a pathological indifference, which neither leads to despair nor euphoria.
No desire, no frustration, because people simply have no desires or motivation.
